Yahoo! GeoCities is Closing

It’s true and maybe sad that Yahoo! sent email announcements to all the users to alert them to save their files on GeoCities before its closing on October 26. After the closing date the free service won’t be accessible anymore and that’s why Yahoo! asks users to move their web sites, or save their images.

If you are one of the GeoCities users you have the possibility to move your site to the Yahoo! Web Hosting for $4.99 a month for a year. This is a limited time offer, according to Yahoo!, and included in the package are the free site building tools, no ads, a free .com domain name, 1,000 personalized email addresses, unlimited email storage, unlimited disk space, unlimited data transfer, and 24-7 free customer support.
After the first year ends you’ll have to spend $9.95 per month, yearly.

To save your files from GeoCities you need to download all your web pages on your computer using the Save As command.

“Please be aware that after October 26, your GeoCities files will be deleted from our servers, and will not be recoverable. If you’d like to save your files, you must download them now or move to Yahoo! Web Hosting.” – from the Yahoo! announcement.
