Ubuntu 9.10 Release Candidate is out

Ubuntu 9.10 Release Candidate was announced yesterday by Steve Langasek as the complete and stable version, ready to be tested by all users. The development team released the Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop edition, Ubuntu 9.10 Server Edition, as well as the Ubuntu Netbook Remix.

Karmic Koala 9.10 delivers the latest open-source features in the popular Linux distribution built on the idea of providing an operating system that’s easy to use and secure.
Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition has faster startup times, while the Ubuntu 9.10 Server Edition comes with the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud setup integrated in the installer, plus AppArmor-based system security. The Ubuntu 9.10 Server for UEC and EC2 enables more power and increased stability at the cloud computing level.

The final release of Ubuntu 9.10 is set for October 29 and comes with permanent support of up to 18 months for all variants including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, the Edubuntu educational operating system, Ubuntu Studio and Mythbuntu.
Steve Langasek mentioned a small number of bugs in the 9.10 release candidate, which will be fixed until the final release comes out.

The Desktop version features GNOME 2.28 with the Empathy Instant Messaging service, the Ubuntu Software Center, improved boot times and various interface changes.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix is a lightweight operating system designed to run on mini laptops powered by the low-power Intel Atom technology. It provides a friendly user interface with easy and quick online access, faster boot times, and a pleasant computer experience.

Kubuntu 9.10 was developed based on the KDE 4.3 and features multiple new applications, and the Kubuntu Netbook variant comes with improved integration for OpenOffice and connectivity with social networking environments.

Xubuntu 9.10 features the Xfce 4.6 desktop environment optimized for productivity and low power consumption. It brings the Exaile media player and the Xfce4 power manager among others, while Mythbuntu 9.10 comes with the MythTV 0.22, cool user interface effects, and support for VDPAU hardware acceleration and HD-PVR hardware.
