Toshiba Ships the 2.5-inch 7200RPM SATA-Certified HDDs of 500GB

Enabling 7,200 RPM, but being developed using less toxic and hazardous chemicals, the new 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive launched by Toshiba delivers high performance and large storage capacity in high-end notebook computers.
Toshiba’s small form factor 500GB hard drive provides 13% increased performance over previous models in the 7,200 category, and the new series with the mentioned features is introduced under the name MKxx56GSY.

Designed not only for notebooks, but also for all-in-one desktop computers and gaming laptops, the new line also enables faster responsiveness in the system during application loading and intensive data processing, while extending battery life significantly.
The operating time in laptop computers equipped with the latest hard disk drives from Toshiba increases as the MKxx56GSY consumes less power in standby mode, as well as in sleep mode.

Toshiba recommends it for gaming and productivity applications, graphic rendering and other similar demanding applications.
Specifications of the new series include 395 Gb/in areal density, 1,255 Mbps transfer rate, 11 ms average seek time, and 3.0 Gb/sec interface transfer rate.
Expect it to be available by the end of the year.

“Compliance with the SATA interface specification and other industry standards is of key importance to Toshiba storage products, as standards establish the foundation on which mainstream solutions can be built,” said Maciek Brzeski, vice president of marketing at Toshiba Storage Device Division. “Standards reduce the risk of integration for our customers and provide the best criteria for interoperability available for the products we design and market.”
