Vodafone Will Offer iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in UK and Ireland Starting 2010

Starting early next year Vodafone will offer both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS high-end cell phones to its customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The announcement regarding the collaboration between the telecommunications service provider and Apple was made by Vodafone UK, which invites all its customers to register for updates on the two official websites of UK and Ireland.

The telecommunications service provider didn’t made any specification on the exact availability date, pricing or tariffs.

People living in the United Kingdom and Ireland will have the chance to get the world’s most advanced cell phone, iPhone 3GS, powered by several high-end technologies meant to enhance the user’s entertainment experience and mobile productivity.
It features multi-touchscreen input, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, advanced mobile 3D graphics, built-in 3MP digital camera with autofocus, video and photo editing functions, Voice Control, Digital Compass, advanced search, the cut, copy and paste functions, and many others.

Apple releases fix for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with iPhone or iPod touch

Last week, a number of IPhone 3GS users reported inconsistent data speeds. Although they had full signal strength, the transmission speeds are inconsistent, and oftentimes exceedingly slow.

Today Apple released a Knowledge Base document with the fixes for the problems. According to Apple, the fixes are for the following symptoms:

The device shows no Wi-Fi address or Bluetooth address (Tap Settings > General > About and scroll down to Wi-Fi Address or Bluetooth).
iPhone or iPod touch appears to be connected to a Wi-Fi network but cannot use Wi-Fi for checking email, surfing the Internet, or other data transactions.
iPhone or iPod touch showing Wi-Fi or Bluetooth icon on device as grayed out.
iPhone not able to pair with Bluetooth device or accessory.
When you tap Settings > Wi-Fi and then tap > next to the network, no values or entries for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, or DNS appear.

First step is to reset your network settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. After you have done that if there is a Wi-Fi address and a Bluetooh address, the problem is solved. If not, folow the next step.

Next step is to reset and erase all content and settings. Do that in Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. If you have Wi-Fi or Bluetooth address, don`t forget to resync your settings and your media using iTunes.

The third step is to restore the iPhone or iPod touch software (this erases all data on the device) using iTunes. After that, sync your previous settings (mail settings, text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, and so on).

The fourth step is the most painful. Go with your device to an Apple service because it needs to be repaired.

Apple issues advice on iPhone 3GS overheating

Apple issued an advice for IPhone and Iphone 3GS users regarding the overheating of their devices. According to them, you must use iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten battery life or cause the device to temporarily stop working properly.

To prevent this from happening, don’t leave your phone in a cat or in direct sunlight on a hot day for extended amounts of time. Even using some applications in these extreme conditions can make your IPhone overheat.

If the temperature of the device exceeds the normal operating temperature, your device stops charging, your display dims or you will get a warning screen with the message: “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it”

You will get this message only when the operating temperature has become too high. IPhone has a safety mechanism that protects the components of your device. When you receive that warning message, you should shut down your IPhone and allow your device to cool before restarting it.

These overheating problems are probably caused by the battery. IPhone is not the only Apple product that has battery issues. In 2006 Apple recalled iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 notebooks and in 2008 recalled Ipod Nanos which caused three fires in Japan.

New features for MobileMe

MobileMe is a service from Apple that pushes new email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync. No docking required. And that’s just one of many ways MobileMe simplifies your life.

Apple released today a new version of MobileMe which comes with new features and more improvements. Most of the improvements are for version 3.0 of IPhone OS or for IPhone 3GS.

Now you can access help directly from me.com toolbar. In Gallery, IPhone 3GS can publish videos to a Gallery album, but if there is no Gallery album, an album is created automatically. In Mail when you forward or reply to an HTML or rich text message, the text maintains the original formatting. A new features added in Mail is that the number of unred messages is now shown next to Inbox or next to every folder.

The improvements for Push Contacts and Push Calendar require IPhone OS 3.0. If you want to delete a MobileMe account or turn off contact and calendar sync on iPhone/iPod touch, a copy of the data will be kept on the device. IPhone 3.1 beta SDK available for download

Today, the developers enrolled in the iPhone Developer Program received an email that said:

“iPhone SDK 3.1 beta and iPhone OS 3.1 beta are now posted to the iPhone Dev Center. These versions are for development and testing only and should be installed on devices dedicated to iPhone OS 3.1 beta software development. Please read the iPhone OS Pre-Install Advisory and the iPhone SDK 3.1 beta release notes before downloading and installingUse the Apple Bug Reporter if you discover compatibility or functionality issues while testing with the iPhone OS 3.1 beta release.”

One of the changes in IPhone OS3.1 beta is that you have a “Save a Copy” option For IPhone 3G S. If you want to edit a film, now you can first save a copy of the original movie. Also MMS function for AT&T carrier is activated, but is not fully functional.

Warning: if your device is unlocked using ultrasn0w’s software DO NOT UPGRADE because you will lock your IPhone. You should wait until version 3.1 will be final and then another ultrasn0w software will be released.

How to Find Your Lost or Stolen iPhone via MobileMe

Those who were anxiously waiting for the iPhone OS 3.0 download link to appear on Apple’s website can now get the software update and install it on the handset while connected to the computer.
Apple provides users with the installation instructions, consisting of 4 simple steps, that they need to follow in order to have the software ready to work.
While the update brings lots of new features and enhancements, you won’t be able to use some of them if you don’t have the latest handset version, the iPhone 3GS.

iPhone OS 3.0 Software Update Available June 17

Apple announced the availability of the updated iPhone OS 3.0 software which you can download from the official website starting tomorrow.
The update brings the same features package as the previous version, plus several new enhancements which aren’t supported by iPhone or iPhone 3G, and which you’ll find out about from the following lines.

Using the on-screen QWERTY keyboard you can perform the basic functions that you have access to on your computer. For example, you can cut parts of text, copy and paste these to another part of the document, or even to another application, and you can do this more comfortably in the landscape mode that activates as you rotate the handset sideways.

Later this summer AT&T will introduce the support for MMS which allows you to send images, audio files and video content, in addition to contact information. This capability is not supported by iPhone 3G.
Using the new iPhone 3GS you can simply record a video inside the MMS message and send it directly.

Spotlight Search is an advanced search engine that finds the information you’re searching among the content stored on the handset. This includes media files, contacts, calendar, emails and so on.

In addition to Voice Memos, an improved calendar with support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, the access to the iTunes Store, Safari enhancements supporting autofill of user names and passwords, automatic Wi-Fi login, Shake to Shuffle, Sync Notes, Parental Controls and new languages, the update comes with the advanced stocks application, as well as the Remote Wipe feature that finds your lost handset and removes all the stored data, remotely.
