Galaxy Spica, also known as the I5700, is Samsung’s newest cell phone addition powered by the Google Android operating system developed specifically for smartphones.
In addition to the access to Google-powered services and to most popular social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, Galaxy Spica features an 800 MHZ mobile processor, DNSe 2.0-powered sound enhancements, a 3.5-mm standard headphone jack, DivX support, which is a world’s first for Android cell phones, and long operating time based on the rechargeable 1500 mAh battery.

Users of this new Samsung cell phone can download as many applications as they want from the Android Market and use the pre-loaded Google Maps, Google Search, Google Talk, YouTube and Gmail services from Google.
Besides all these, the smartphone comes with high-speed Internet connectivity support, a 3.2-inch high-resolution TFT LCD display, built-in 3MP camera with autofocus and camcorder functionality, multimedia player, full web browser, GPS, and 180 MB internal memory expandable up to 32GB via a microSD card.

“Samsung has made a great effort to strengthen our smartphone line up with a wide range of innovative products for every user,” said JK Shin, Executive Vice President and Head of the Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics. “The Samsung Galaxy Spica, powered by Android, is the perfect fit for users who want to enjoy a powerful and fast mobile experience.”

Even if there’s no word on price, Samsung said it will make the handset available first in European countries.

Motorola Droid With Android 2.0 Comes at Verizon Wireless

Motorola announced the introduction of the first cell phone running on the Android 2.0 platform next week, more exactly on November 6. Called Motorola Droid, the handset will be available via Verizon Wireless in the United States, featuring high-speed Internet connectivity via 3G, voice-based search, and lots of cool and useful Google-based applications.
The design is stylish, featuring a sliding full QWERTY keyboard and a large 3.7-inch touchscreen display.

Using Motorola Droid you can access the Internet via 3G or Wi-Fi, browse HTML web pages, play with multiple applications at the same time, send and receive emails, check locations on Gogole Maps, get hundreds of widgets from the Android Market, use voice-activated search, and take pictures with the built-in camera.
The built-in 5MP camera has dual-LED flash, autofocus, image stabilization, and video recording capability.

Droid also comes with a 16GB memory card for a large storage capacity, while other features include Google Maps Navigation Beta with turn-by-turn voice directions, Gmail, YouTube access, Google Talk, Facebook, Amazon MP3 Store, and Verizon’s Wireless Visual Voice Mail.

The handset will be available exclusively at Verizon Wireless for a price of $199.99 with a 2-year contract and an $100 mail-in rebate.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G Available for Pre-Orders July 8

T-Mobile myTouch 3G is the follow-up of the first smartphone running on the Google Android operating system, T-Mobile G1. The telecommunication company announced its availability for pre-orders starting in less than 16 days.
If the first Android-powered phone was focused on delivering several Google applications in one handset, the T-Mobile myTouch 3G adds multiple customization options including wallpapers, menus, icons, themes and applications available at the Android Market, the place where you can also find games, social networks and others.

The smartphone designed by HTC comes in black, white and merlot, but you have the possibility to apply skins and customize its exterior as well as the internal features.
It seems that all of these customization options are meant to create a more personal relationship between the user and his/her cell phone.

New applications include Geodelic’s Sherpa, based on the GENIE system that automatically learns from user’s feedback and recommends the most appropriate restaurants, retailers and attractions.
Other applications brought by the new T-Mobile myTouch 3G to the US customers include the popular Google Search by voice, Google Maps with Street View, YouTube, Picasa and Google Talk.

The handset sports a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen display and also features automatic portrait-to-landscape mode switching, a built-in 3.2MP camera with video recording, music player, 4GB microSD memory card and Wi-Fi connectivity.

If you are ready to purchase it you can pre-order it starting July 8 for $199.99, together with a 2-year agreement. In case you want to test it first you need to wait until August, when it will be available in stores.

Huawei’s Android Smartphone With the Longest Battery Capacity

If it happens to be in Singapore these days, you have the chance to participate at this year’s edition of CommunicAsia, an event focused on the ICT industry, which lasts up to June 19.
Huawei is present there to showcase it’s newest smartphones running on Windows Mobile and Android operating systems, which will be available in stores worldwide starting the second half of this year.

Huawei U8230 is a full-touchscreen smartphone running on Android. It sports a large 3.5-inch LCD display on which you can browse the web via Google Chrome and use different applications from Google, such as Google Maps, Google Search and Google Talk.
According to the press release, the model features the longest operating time of an Android-based phone, using a 1500 mAh-battery, and also provides two modes for the on-screen QWERTY keyboard – full and half.

The other new smartphone launched by Huawei is the C8000 running on the Windows Mobile operating system. It features an advanced three-dimensional graphic user interface powered by a separate display adapter to enable high-quality video.
You can watch video content on the 2.8-inch touch-sensitive display for up to 8 hours continuously, thanks to the smart power management.

There’s no word on prices or exact availability date yet, but the company promises to introduce several smartphones with support for WCDMA, CDMA, and TD-SCDMA standards by the end of this year.
