Smartphones running on the Android platform support the new SPB TV IPTV viewer that allows users to watch TV shows while on the go, right on their handset’s screen.
The service was launched by SPB Software, a developer of mobile applications, and was designed to provide hundreds of digital TV channels from all over the world without subscription.
Similar with high-end TV panels, handsets running Android, which have the SPB TV software installed, support the picture-in-picture mode, as well as other innovative features enabled by the IPTV viewer.
In addition to the support for Android smartphones, the service can also run on Windows Mobile- and Symbian-based phone models.
The current version of the software is SPB TV 1.0, which delivers access to over 100 international TV channels in more than 20 languages, an unique TV browser with quick preview for each channel and list of upcoming TV shows, integrated TV guide for every week, capability of setting Calendar reminders for your favorite TV shows, the Transparent controls for sound and brightness, and support for hardware button controls.
SPB TV 1.0 can be installed on Android 1.5-based phones with HVGA display resolution, and handsets running Windows Mobile 5 or later and 60 3rd edition. Also, users have to make sure their phones support 3G or Wi-Fi connectivity.
You can get the freeware version with limited number of features and channels, or go for the full version available for $9.95.
