Sony Ericsson Naite was launched at the O2 telecommunication network as a greener handset that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 15%. It is available for the O2 customers with a gift that can be either for themselves or for charity.
The special gift worth up to £150 consists of a solar powered charger, while the donation would cover the salary of an African teacher for a month, help a child, or even contribute to the PlayPump water system.
In addition to reducing carbon footprint by 15%, Sony Ericsson Naite uses a low power consumption charger and comes packed with an e-manual so that it reduces paper usage by 90%.
Specifications of the new cell phone include a built-in 2 MP digital camera for taking pictures and recording videos, stereo Bluetooth capability, integrated FM radio, and expandable storage supporting up to 8 GB from a memory card.
It is available for free with monthly subscriptions, or for £97.86 with Pay & Go.
“Not only is sustainability a key issue for us as a business, but we know that it’s also important to our customers,” said Sally Cowdry, O2’s Marketing Director. “The Naite is a key part of our strategy to bringing products and services to our customers which can help them reduce their energy consumption. It’s about making their decision to buy a greener device easy with an affordable and feature-packed phone, but which also has a greatly reduced carbon footprint.”
