RIM Launches New BlackBerry Smart Card Reader With Bluetooth Connectivity

Research In Motion launched a new smart card reader designed for its BlackBerry smartphones running the BlackBerry Device Software version 5.0 or higher.
If you are one of the business users using a BlackBerry handset you could pair it with the new BlackBerry Smart Card Reader for file transfer, as well as connect the new device with a computer wirelessly, for the same purpose.
The wireless connectivity between the card reader and the BlackBerry, or between the card reader and the computer, is possible thanks to the Bluetooth 2.0 technology with advanced AES-256 encryption, the latter keeping the connection secure.

It is an innovative wearable gadget that not only to normal users could benefit from, but also organizations that require a security accessory for BlackBerry handsets. In case the smartphone goes out of range of the smart card reader, it locks automatically.

The BlackBerry Smart Card Reader measures 3.98 x 2.4 x 0.57 inches at 2.26 oz and features a display, power management elements that extend the battery life, security options available for IT administrators, settings for content protection, support for complex Bluetooth pairing codes including letters, capital letters and symbols, as well as support for Personal Identity Verification cards, Common Access Cards and Safenet 330 cards.

You can find out more about the new smart card reader for BlackBerry at at the LandWarNet 2009 Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, before the availability on the market in September.
