Similar with other browser add-ons that monitor your web traffic and warn when you’re about to visit an infected web site, Panda’s new Web of Trust service is meant to protect you against identity theft, online scams, spyware, untrusted online stores and spam.
The service was developed by the Finland-based company called Against Intuition and Panda Security managed to launch the add-on version for Internet users for free.
You can download and install the Web of Trust add-on based on safety ratings for both Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers from the Panda Security web site.
According to Panda Security, the new web tool is lightweight so it won’t make you feel its presence while browsing web sites, and uses an intuitive rating system for the search results in searching engines.
These rating are updated in real-time by the members of the Web of Trust community, which are millions, and by the phishing site listings.
“We are excited to have Panda, a respected security company as a partner in our goal to make the Internet a safer place for everyone,” said Against Intuition’s CEO Esa Suurio. “WOT prides itself in providing frontline protection in the battle against online threats, and with this strong collaboration between Panda Security and Web of Trust we have strengthened both our offerings and given our users a definite advantage against cybercrime.”
