Developed with the idea of creating a simple way for sharing information only at the browser level, the new Opera Unite technology made available yesterday is meant to offer the functionalities of a client and a server via the web browser, eliminating the need for third-party servers, but providing the same level of privacy.
The technology works with the latest Opera web browser version and not only Internet users can benefit from the new features, but also web developers who work with open standard like JavaScript, CSS and HTML, and need to create their own service on Opera Unite.
After installing the software you can use up to 6 major services: File Sharing, Web Server, Media Player, Photo Sharing, The Lounge and Fridge.
Thins you can use them for include sharing personal files directly from your computer. Your friends can access these by using a direct URL generated by Opera Unite. This method saves time usually spent for uploading.
Next, you have the possibility to run your own web site that you’re working at, right in the web browser. The new technology provides the Opera Unite Web Server feature that creates your web site with accuracy and allows you to use an Opera Unite URL for accessing it.
When you’re on the go and in the mood for listening to the music, you can simply enter the direct link in the web browser and connect to your music collection.
Same thing can be done with the photo albums, without uploading.
The Lounge is the virtual place running on the computer, where you can chat with friends and colleagues using, again, a direct link. You won’t have to worry about privacy because Opera Unite generates a password that you’ll have to provide only to the people you want in the chat room.
If you don’t have time for chatting you can leave a message to friends or family members and read the replies at a later time. Fridge allows you to post notes on the so-called virtual refrigerators.
Opera Unite is available for download at Opera Labs, and after installation it becomes accessible via the logo on the left corner of the browser.
