NVIDIA announced that its ION graphics technology is powering visuals in HP’s recently introduced mini notebook computer called HP Mini 311. The netbook is said to deliver a full list of capabilities that are characteristic to larger notebooks, but from an 11.6-inch system with high definition support.
NVIDIA ION combined with a low-power processor can produce high performance in a small computer, which becomes suitable even for casual gaming, supporting all Windows operating system editions.
The netbook comes with Microsoft Windows XP by default and has a LED display of 1366 x 768 pixels, while equipped with HDMI and VGA connectivity options to enable 1080p resolution on a High Definition TV.
ArcSoft SimHD is in charge with converting videos in standard definition to high definition content, based on the NVIDIA CUDA architecture used in NVIDIA graphic processing units. It practically performs the upscalling much faster than on a central processing unit.
More than that, the NVIDIA ION technology enables mini computers to support any Windows platform, high definition up to 1080p, extended battery life, HDMI connectivity, 24-bit 8-channel LPCM uncompressed audio via HDMI, and much more.
“Where last month netbooks were considered inadequate, this month HP delivers an amazing product with support for HD movies, games, video editing, and more,” declared Tim Bajarin, principal analyst at Creative Strategies. “Why couldn’t netbooks do this before? They lacked good graphics.”
