NTT Docomo to Apply Self-Healing Paint on Cell Phones

NTT Docomo will get the license for Nissan’s Scratch Shield paint technology to use it for cell phones that will be released on the Japan market.
Scratch Shield is an innovative paint with self-healing properties that is currently used in select Nissan and Infiniti cars around the world. The paint technology was developed by Nissan in collaboration with Advanced Softmaterials and the University of Tokyo.
It is the world’s first self-healing paint and was first introduced at the end of 2005 proving to heal fine scratches in several hours or up to a week. In addition to this feature, it is also scratch-resistant.

NTT Docomo wants to apply the advanced paint technology on its cell phones and make them more durable to scratches.

On the page dedicated to this paint technology, on the Nissan website, we read that the Scratch Shield is clear and after applied to cars these have five times less scratches than other cars using standard paint. The material consists of a highly elastic resin mixed with a standard clearcoat that increases the flexibility of the paint, as well as the strength.
During car painting they apply a surfacer, the basecoat and the clearcoat.
