Believing that the security industry demands a rethinking of the traditional approach, Symantec will introduce “Quorum”, the codename for a new protection system. “Quorum” will be introduced to the mass market for the first time with the official product launch expected in fall 2009.
The new protection system “Quorum” will introduce not only new reputation-based threat detection, but also reconsiders other fundamentals such as security alerting, threat removal, antispam and parental controls.
The control system was redesigned and improved. SONAR 2 measures response across the PC to make accurate decisions. Also SONAR 2 detects threads using information from all features of the product whether it is driven by network communications, program activity on the system, leveraging reputation data in the cloud, or other defenses.
The Norton 2010 products benefit from a new engine for Antispam module and a remodeled Parental Controls module. Symantec Brightmail is the new engine for Antispam module which brings “enterprise-class protection to consumer inboxes”. The great thing of the new Antispam module is the no time-consuming “training”, working from time-tested heuristics and cloud-based signatures.
Another new feature of Norton 2010 products is Online Family Norton. This is a web-based service “that keeps parents in the loop on their kids online lives and fosters communication about what’s appropriate and inappropriate behavior on the Internet”.
