Skype launches today two new versions: 3.0 for Windows Mobile and 1.1 for IPhone/IPod Touch.
The new client for Windows Mobile includes two new great features: sending files and sending text messages (SMS). You can now use your windows mobile device to send spreadsheets, photos, music and other files to other mobile devices or to a computer.
Using the SMS feature you can send text messages to mobiles abroad at Skype’s low rates which are, sometimes, lower than your carrier’s rates. And if you are travelling abroad, you can avoid roaming charges by sending text messages from WI-FI zones.
To install Skype 3.0 you must have a compatible device with Windows Mobile Professional or Windows Mobile Standard versions 5, 6 and 6.1. You need a minimum 12MB of free storage memory on your device to install Skype or 6MB free if you are installing from a memory card.
Good news for IPhone/IPod Touch users. Version 1.1 is available for download from iTunes or from the App Store. Beside some improvements to the look and feel, particularly when calling phones using the dial pad, now you can listen to your Skype voicemail while you’re on the move, as well as send text messages to friends and family around the world.
Skype for IPhone/IPod Touch is available in the following languages: Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish and Traditional Chinese as well as English.
