Microsoft Security Essentials Available for Free Starting Today

Starting today, users of Windows-based computers will have the possibility to download the new Microsoft Security Essentials protection software and benefit from its wide range of security features for free. In order to be able to use it you need a a computer with a genuine Windows operating system installed.
The new Microsoft Security Essentials software provides real-time protection without consuming many computer resources, as the company announced yesterday in a press release.

The software certified by West Coast Labs was developed to protect computers from viruses, spyware and other malicious programs, being easy to use, without requiring any registration, or renewal.
It runs in the background and alerts you only when there is something important you should take a look at and make the appropriate decisions. Microsoft says it’s working at the same performance level even on older computers and gets the latest virus definitions via the Dynamic Signature Service.

Microsoft Security Essentials will be available for download later today in eight languages from its official web page and is compatible with Windows XP SP2/SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7, on both x32 and x64 versions. Other system requirements include 1 GHz CPU and 1 GB of RAM memory for Windows Vista and Windows 7, or a 500 MHz processor speed and 256 MB of RAM for Windows XP, 800 x 600 display resolution, 140 MB free hard disk space, Internet connection for updates, and Windows Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox 2.
