Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview

Today, at Worldwide Partner Conference 2009, Microsoft announced the availability of Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft Visio 2010 and Microsoft Project 2010. They reached the technical preview stage; this means that you can register to test the applications as part of the Technical Preview program.

Microsoft Office 2010 comes in 5 flavors:

  • Office Home and Business 2010: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote
  • Office Home and Student : Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote (will be licensed only for noncommercial use)
  • Office Standard: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote(New addition to suite), Publisher (New addition to suite) and Microsoft Office Web Apps. Office standard will be available only via volume licensing
  • Office Professional: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote(New addition to suite), Publisher and Access
  • Office Professional Plus: Excel, Outlook with Business Contact Manager, PowerPoint, Word, Access, InfoPath, Microsoft Communicator, Publisher, OneNote (New addition to suite), Microsoft  SharePoint Workspace 2010(New addition to suite), Microsoft Office Web Apps, integrated solution capabilities such as enterprise content management (ECM), electronic forms, and information rights and policy capabilities

One of the greatest additions to Office suite is the Office Web Apps. The Office Web Apps is the lightweight Web browser versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote. This will allow you to work with your Microsoft Office files, from more places and on more devices than before, by providing browser-based viewing.

Another great news is that Microsoft Office 2010 will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Microsoft Office 2010 is compatible with Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Microsoft Office has the same hardware requirements as Microsoft Office 2007. The Office Web Apps is compatible with Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox.
