If you are using McAfee SiteAdvisor you can always see which sites listed in the search results page are safe to navigate on, or if they were indexed in McAfee’s red list of compromised sites.
I highly recommend you to use this tool because it’s reliable, free to download and keeps you safe while browsing the Internet.
Unfortunately, more and more sites have become compromised lately, most of which are those providing torrent files.
Even Torrentreactor.net was affected recently and if you take a look at the SiteAdvisor icon you will see details about the problem affecting it. In this case McAfee warns about breached browser security, which means that if you navigate on the website it can make unauthorized changes to your computer.
If you enter on the website directly you will see the following warning:
“Why were you redirected to this page? When we tested, this site attempted to make unauthorized changes to our test PC by exploiting a browser security vulnerability. This is a serious security threat which could lead to an infection of your PC.”
According to the Websense Security Labs ThreatSeeker Network, a hidden iFrame was injected into the website’s pages and loads malicious code, attempting to exploit your computer’s software and spread malware infection.
Sensitive software that can be exploited includes Microsoft Office Snapshot Viewer, Internet Explorer, Adobe Shockwave Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If the exploit is successful, a Trojan will download to your computer along with other malware as rootkit.
This problem is very common to sites providing torrents for download, and other popular websites that were affected are Minova and btjunkie.
