UDR, a real estate investment trust from the US, launched a new advanced mobile application designed to work on Google Android phones and on the iPhone 3G S, allowing users to find apartments easier, from anywhere they are, in their homes, or outside.
Layar is available via T-Mobile for Android cell phones and for the iPhone 3G S.
It works by simply pointing the handset to any direction and the application will start showing available apartments with several options, such as call the seller, check availability, send an email, property details, or directions to get there.
Layar is powered by the Augmented Reality technology that uses the built-in GPS, the accelerometer sensor and the compass to gather digital data. It is an augmented reality browser that detects and displays available apartments in any direction, located within a 10-mile range. Users can check the pricing, the number of apartments available in the direction, the distance to get there, museums, movie theaters, restaurants and other points of interest, and have the possibility to place a hold on a specific apartment offer.
The applications is available for free at the Google Android Application Store and at the Apple iPhone Store.
“We pride ourselves as the industry leader when it comes to embracing and adopting new mobile appliance technology,” said Steve Taraborelli, vice president of sales and marketing, UDR. “Implementing AR search applications into our existing mobile services platform is another example of how UDR is working to make finding and renting an apartment easier for consumers.”
