Microsoft released Hopper for Windows Mobile 6.5 and for those of you who haven’t heard about it yet, well, Hopper is a software used for tests by simulating input stress on those devices running on the Windows Mobile operating system. It does that by sending random keystrokes and taps to all applications installed on the handset, which are available via the menu system. Using this method, the software isolates problematic scenarios, finding application bugs very quickly.
The Hopper Test Tool is available for download and the newest version of the software is supported by Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1, as well as 6.5 operating system versions.
Microsoft recommends using the tool in the early development steps in order to fix the issues easier.
For a mobile application to receive certification on the Windows Marketplace, it requires the Hopper Test to be performed for two hours, without crashing or showing unusual behavior.
Testers need to customize the focus application via FocusApp, before running the software, so that Hopper will focus only on this application. The tool will bring the application back if Hopper navigates away from it.
You can find the executable file Hopper in the \tools\Hopper directory and you’ll need to copy it to the root folder of the handset, along with the FocusApp binary.
Next you have to launch the file explorer, go to the root folder, launch FocusApp, dismiss the application or press the Back key, and then launch Hopper.
As soon as it starts, Hopper will bring your application on.
