The security of online banking transactions is the most important aspect we take into account when choosing a bank that allows us to use this innovative system from the comfort of our homes.
According to statistics, Germany is the European country with the largest number of online banking users.
Gemalto, the provider of digital security products and solutions, has released a new device meant to simplify online banking procedures, while maintaining the same high security level.
Ezio Optical TAN is an optical reader introduced for online banking customers in Germany. It is a credit card-sized device that fits inside your wallet, allowing you to have both the banking card and the reader in one place.
When you need to perform transactions you have to insert your card in the Ezio Optical TAN and then set the device in front of the computer display, while the optical sensors capture the information that until now you had to enter manually via a keypad.
This technology allows you to use the online banking system in fewer steps, without installing any software to support the device.
The handheld device measures 79 x 57 mm at 22 grams and features a 15-key keypad, display, zooming, one-time password, as well as transaction data signature.
Steps required for completing transactions are :
-the card is inserted into the reader
-the reader is placed in front of the computer’s display for optical data transmission
-the transaction data is displayed on the reader’s screen
-the user validates the data
-the reader displays the OTP code
-the user enters the ID and the OTP code manually
-the authentication server validates the OTP code entered and dispalys the OK message.
