Garmin introduced two new handheld GPS navigators called Dakota 10 and Dakota 20, sporting a candybar design and featuring a small form factor, as well as a friendly user interface.
The new GPS devices are optimized for outdoor use with high-sensitivity GPS receivers, worldwide maps and touchscreen displays, all packed in water-resistant handsets providing up to 20 hours of continuous operation, powering from two AA batteries.
HotFix is an advanced capability that calculates and stores satellite information in order to provide accurate location data even in extreme environments.
Dakota handsets have 850MB of internal memory, which allows you to store 1,000 waypoints, 50 routes, 2,000 geocaches and a tracklog containing 10,000 points and 200 tracks.
On Garmin’s geocache-dedicated website section you can find out more on how to download the 2,000 caches and access information as location, terrain, difficulty, hints and description, right on the handset.
The touchscreen interface available via the 2.6-inch color display can be accessed even using gloves.
To connect the handset to the computer you can use the USB interface.
Other features include a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter, microSD card slot for external memory, and wireless connectivity to other compatible devices like Dakota, Oregon, Colorado and Foretrex.
Prices are not known yet, but Garmin specified in its latest press release, that both Dakota 10 and Dakota 20 will be available for purchase at affordable prices.
