Dell will deliver the 15$ monitors

On June 25 at 11am on Dell’s website in Taiwan, the monitor E1909W was listed at only NT$500 (US$15, £9). In 8 hours 26000 consumers ordered 140000 monitors. First Dell promised that they will deliver the monitors to customers that placed only one order and will give discounts for those who ordered more than one monitor.

Taiwan’s Consumer Protection Commission received 471 complaints and forced Dell to honor all the orders.  If Dell doesn’t follow the directive, Taipei will consider it a violation of the country’s fair trade laws and seek legal recourse.

Because of these transactions Dell stands to lose 2079000 dollars. Two million dollars in 8 hours. Dell has issued a statement on the matter apologizing and claiming it will compensate the buyers for the mistake.

This is an example of justice which should be followed by other countries as well. You have to appreciate the fact that Taiwan is a country that takes care of its consumer market and will make every effort to keep it satisfied even if this means taking on big companies like Dell.

This is one of the rare cases when a company is forced to recognize its mistake and to honor all orders. Life isn’t always fair, but when you buy a Dell monitor with $15 it make you forget the bad things.
