Created especially for digital content creators, CAD and other similar applications used by engineers and professional designers, the new Dell Precision M6400 mobile workstations comes with graphics powered by AMD’s recently announced ATI FirePro M7740 graphics accelerator.
Also showcased at SIGGRAPH 2009, the computer system presents itself as a mobile powerhorse when it comes to intensive design applications, featuring increased performance and scalability.
The 3D graphics accelerator enables outstanding color rendering and Dell’s new workstation line using it is fitting high-demanding multitasking applications.

Features of the mobile system include a 17-inch display with 100% Adobe color gamut support, two hard drives for up to 1TB of storage, RAID storage options, memory scalability of up to 16GB based on the Intel Q43 chipset supporting four memory DIMM slots, as well as support for large models in Microsoft Direct X- or OpenGL environments.

Specifications include the Windows Vista operating system pre-installed or Red Hat 5.1 Linux 64-bit edition, optional backlit display, dual-channel DDR3 memory, optional Solid State Drive of up to 256GB, Bluetooth 2.1, mobile broadband, GPS, dual-array microphones, and a 9-cell battery.
The workstation measures 15.4 x 11 x 1.35 inches at 8.5 lbs.

“The ATI FirePro M7740 brings superior visual quality and graphical performance to our Dell Precision M6400 mobile workstations, giving us a distinct competitive advantage in the marketplace,” said Greg Weir, Senior Manager, Dell Precision Workstation. “Joining forces with AMD has enabled us to design a mobile platform that delivers desktop workstation-class performance and provides our customers with a more comprehensive range of solution choices.”
