Just a couple of days after Spring Design launched the eBook reader with dual display called Alex, Barnes & Noble, one of the world’s largest book sellers, introduces its wireless eBook reader with the same feature as Alex. It too has a simple and easy to remember name, nook, and sports one E-Ink display and a color touchscreen display in the lower part.
Barnes & Noble said it’s the first electronic book reader that allows users to lend a wide selection of eBooks for free. This capability is enabled by the LendMe technology and you can use it to lend a book to one of your friends, or colleagues, for up to 14 days at a time. Your friend can receive it on his/her iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry handset, Motorola smartphone, personal computer, or Mac system, with the condition to the have the free Barnes & Noble eReader application installed.
Getting back to the innovative dual display feature with secondary touchscreen, we have to mention that the main display is powered by the E Ink Vizplex technology and provides adjustable text size for comfortable reading, while the secondary display offers easy navigation, including an on-screen keyboard and virtual navigation controls.
Users can download eBooks wirelessly via 3G or Wi-Fi from the Barnes & Noble stores.
The portable device can hold up to 1,500 eBooks by default, but the storage can be expanded up to 16 GB via a microSD memory card, to be able to hold up to 17,500 eBooks. It also supports PDF documents transferred from the computer.
Barnes & Noble will release nook by the end of next month, but the device is available now for pre-orders for a price of $259.
