If you were worried about hardware compatibility issues you might encounter after installing Windows 7, start being more optimistic as soon more and more hardware manufacturers will release drivers with support for Microsoft’s new operating system.
Advanced Micro Devices, for instance, has just introduced its first ATI Catalyst graphics drivers for Windows 7 RTM. The new drivers have passed Microsoft’s WHQL Testing and are ready to power the Windows 7-based computers, increasing stability as well as gaming performance.
Users of computers with graphics powered by the ATI Radeon technology can now download the ATI Catalyst 9.7 driver from game.amd.com, while ATI FirePro workstation graphic accelerators can enable more features if professional users install the new ATI Catalyst 8.632 driver also available for download.
The new ATI Catalyst drivers will enable increased stability and support for AMD systems running on Windows 7, full support for Windows 7 desktop environment, higher gaming performance in both single-card and multi-GPU configurations, and support for accelerated video transcoding.
“AMD continues to be an important Microsoft technology partner,” declared Jon DeVaan, senior vice president, Windows Core OS Division, Microsoft. “We’ve worked closely with AMD through all of the Windows 7 milestones to ensure that Windows 7 supports the latest high-performance graphics features such as tessellation and shader model 5.0, which will deliver a stunning visual experience when running Windows 7 with AMD graphics.”
