Airo Wireless Launches the A25is Rugged PDA for Potentially Explosive Environments

Finally, people working in harsh environments who need a good-looking rugged cell phone have an alternative to the famous Sonim handsets. Until recently, Sonim XP was the only rugged model featuring a nice design, coming in a compact form factor without looking bulky like the other handsets of its kind. Like Sonim XP, the new A25is from Airo Wireless breaks the rule that rugged devices have to look ugly, measuring 142.4 x 68 x 24.4 mm at 275 grams and coming in blue with grey color combination.

A25 is a personal digital assistant created for potentially explosive environments such as fuel distribution, refineries, oil platforms, alcohol processing and paint processing. It meets the UL 913, ATEX, MIL-SPEC 810-F, IP67, PTCRB, FCC, UL, IC, CE, and GCF certification requirements and is shock-proof, water-resistant and dust-proof, while being capable of operating in temperatures ranging between -20 and +50 degrees Celsius.

Technologies featured by the new handset include Push-to-Talk, GPS, telematics, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, up to 2GB of external memory via a miniSD card, a 2.8-inch 16 million color display, QWERTY keypad, touchscreen interface, speakerphone, speech recognition, and a standard 1570 mAh Li-Ion Polymer battery.
The rugged PDA runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system and is powered by an Intel Xscale PXA270 processor at 416 MHz speeds.

Though Airo Wireless said the handset will be available in stores in the fourth quarter of this year, there is no word on price.
